This special generation, called Gen Z, has a lot of fashion trends among them. They have changed many narratives as far as the fashion world is concerned. Why do we care? Gen Z does not conform to many regular fashion styles that have been etched in history. One of the things I have observed about the Nigerian Gen Z is their simple but stylish outfits.
The millennials left some footprints for Gen Z. They were moderate in their makeup, wore fewer short dresses, and also stuck to some regular hairstyles. Yet, with the advent of high technology reaching their doorsteps, they advanced further with their fashion styles. They opted for low cuts but minimal use of sprays. Gen Z topped them in everything; I can say they touched every aspect of their preferred fashion styles.
How Nigerian Gen Z is stepping up its fashion game
Baggy jeans or boyfriend jeans paired with a crop top or an oversized T-shirt.
This generation has a great penchant for baggy jeans, also known as boyfriend jeans. These can be paired with a crop top or an oversized T-shirt. You can see them accessorizing with a matching hat, sunglasses, and a pair of sneakers. Yes, they have also incorporated socks into their fashion game.
A mini straight-cut/pleated skirt with a crop top.
Invite them to a beach or any other party, and they will arrive in a simple, stylish, and elegant look. A mini straight-cut or pleated skirt paired with a crop top or handkerchief top could be their outfit for the day. They can complement this outfit with bold statement sunglasses, statement earrings, sneakers or boots, and a small handbag.
A bodycon dress
Gen Z believes in revealing all the curves when the time calls for it. A headscarf is not a bad idea when rocking this outfit. Flat sandals or sneakers can be a choice with such a dress pattern.
For Asoebi/Owambe
Instead of a complicated Asoebi style, most Gen Z individuals will opt for something minimal. For instance, they may decide to ditch the Geles in favor of their favorite hairstyle. Corset dress styles and simple accessories will provide them with their desired look.
For office and other corporate events
Body-fitting and beautiful corporate wear is the order of the day. In their heels, they walk smartly and elegantly while carrying out their duties.
Other fashion trends among them
Application of different colors of sprays on their low-cut hair
As I mentioned earlier, most millennials comfortably rocked their low cuts in natural shades. Gen Z spiced things up by going for colorful shades of sprays. Most of them opted for different styles of wigs that they can comfortably remove at any time, leaving them with the option of showcasing their natural hair. Braiding and the use of weaves have been reduced drastically.
Leg chains
Leg chains are not new to the fashion world, but they are not a very common fashion accessory. The Gen Z generation is bringing them back into full view. Pairing bum shorts and short skirts with leg chains is now part of their streetwear accessories.
Application of bold Make-up
Gen Z doesn’t leave any stone unturned when it comes to the application of makeup. They prefer flashy colors of eyeshadows and lipsticks, along with fascinating patterns for their eyebrows. They are never hidden in any crowd.
We hope to see more patterns and trends as far as the fashion world is concerned in the Gen Z’s.
