Ololade Ayelabola has proved that you can set your own record even in a field where you have been severally rejected. The final year computer science student of University of Lagos is on her way to having her name in the Guinness World Record after completing 103 hours Longest distance walked on a Catwalk by a Model. The catwalk took place at the Indoor Sports center, University of Lagos. It kicked off on October 1st, 2024. The model and voice over artist recounted how her applications were rejected in two national fashion events with both citing her height as the reason.
She didnโt let these rejections stop her from going, instead she summoned courage to break a 41-year-old record. The current record holder has 114.4 km (71.1 miles) that lasted from September 19-21, 1983.
Some of the rules that counts in surpassing the record includes. โ1. Location must be public and accessible. The Catwalk must be on a long narrow stage raised above the ground. 3. At least, one model is walking the catwalk at all times. 4. Only Loladeโs walk counts. 5. No one outfit maybe repeated within a 12-hour cycle. 6. No copyrighted songs. 7. Accurate measurement of the runway is 63.47m. 8. The total distance is to be calculated by multiplying the length of the catwalk by the number of completed โlapsโ made by at least one model in the team (Our Ololade). 9. The distance taken for the record must be a multiplication of the total number of laps of the runway completed against the distance of the runway. 10. The attempt is to walk the longest distance walked on a catwalk by a Model.โ
What is the benefits of her attempts you may ask? In a circular shared by the model, the attempts aims at; โPromoting Nigerian rich and cultural heritage. Boosting tourism and attracting international media attention. Inspiring Nigerian youths and fostering innovation. Celebrating inclusivity and innovation in our world.โ
